Nice b&b, great host
Had three nights at Luigi’s with my son. Enjoyed the place. Short walk to the black beaches with seafood restaurants. Good base for exploring Mt. Etna and Catania. However, the best thing about this b&b is the host. I’ve never experienced such a service-minded host before. Luigi picked us up at the airport, made telephone calls, inquired, booked, fixed. And today drove us back to the airport. He’s easy-going and made our stay both comfortable and stressless. If returning to Catania, I’ll definitely check in at Luigi’s again.
Unforgettable travel experience!
Molto bene! Truthfully words cannot express the extent to which my stay at La Casa di Luigi impacted my experience in Sicily. I headed to Catania on a whim , enticed by the fact that Sicily is my partial ancestral stomping ground ( I am half Sicilian). I was weary traveling alone but my worries immediately subsided my first night after Luigi treated me to a tour of the city center. He couldn’t have been more accommodating and I truly felt like family. The following day he took me and a fellow lodger to Taormina where we relaxed at isolabella and toured the beautiful antiquated town of Taormina. I will most definitely return and urge anyone reading this to do so! Thank you Luigi, a truly life changing experience. Arrivederci my friend!
Most memorable travel experience
I booked just 2 days before my stay at La Casa di Luigi as it was a last minute decision to Catania for a conference. As a lone female traveller and a non-Italian speaker, I was very wary about my trip to Catania. Once booked, Luigi took the initiative to ask for my flight arrival time so he could come and pick me up. I later found out that he did it on purpose and made sure that my lone travel is in good hands. But it was a shame that I could not get to him through whatsapp and vice versa when I arrived because I did not have internet and the airport has no wifi (no English speakers either..) So I ended up having to pay 30EUR (too expensive! -did not know at that time that 10EUR is the normal price) by taxi to the accommodation at night. I had the most incredible stay of any of my travels in Catania. Luigi made me feel at home right away when I met him. He was so welcoming and receptive. I told him of my plans here in Catania. He offered to give me a ride to the conference place and back and also made sure that I do not have to hesitate to contact him whenever I need a ride (said he will be my bodyguard!). After I mentioned that I would like to try the local favourites (as I’m a foodie), He was so enthusiastic about showing me Catania that he suggested to take me on a spontaneous trip to try Arancini on that night of my arrival! He also took me sight-seeing on the same night. I only had very limited time in Catania, basically only 1 day to do any exploring/visiting. My rough plan without detailed researching was to visit the local market and Mt.Etna. But they were too far away to walk, and planning ahead was required to book onto the tour to Mt.Etna that starts off at Taormina - I needed to find out how I needed to get to Taormina too....ALL my worries were lifted and I could not believe it when Luigi suggested to take me personally to ALL these places and a few extra on top of that in his car. He was also my personal tour guide for the day! He made my visit to Catania most phenomenal. I had an incredible time. An extra bonus - His family came to visit during my stay too, so I got to join them for a wonderful Sicilian Seafood experience for dinner (we got the seafood and fish from the local market that morning!) It was exquisite. Thank you so much Luigi, for turning my trip to Catania from what I thought would be an ordinary trip to a most memorable one. Most importantly, I felt safe as a female lone traveller, he made sure of that. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to have the most Sicilian experience in Catania because also, you know what? We communicated using only the Google Translate app throughout my stay because he could only speak Sicilian/Italian - still I had the most amazing trip - how cool is that!
Great base, great food, great B&B
Luigi’s apartment is part of the ground floor of an impressive, large mansion built about 100 years ago which has since been divided into comfortable apartments. This 3 bedroom apartment on the corner of two roads is easily approached via a narrow turn-off from the main coast road a couple of kilometres north of the centre of Catania, up the hill, to where there is free street parking outside. It enjoys views between the more recently built apartment blocks to the palm trees and sea beyond. It has its own secluded, walled garden complete with trees, grass and a large round, marble table where you can take the breakfast provided of fruit, juice, coffee or tea, and Sicilian pastries. The room we occupied is the larger (5x5m) of the two available to guests, and is located in the corner of the house with windows onto both roads, so is light and airy. It has a tiled floor, large double bed with comfortable mattresses, small wardrobe, large desk, and small settee. There are two his & hers shared bathrooms down the corridor. Our genial host, Luigi, has spent much time and money to restore this elderly building to its current comfortable state so that it now has tiled floors throughout, which coupled with the substantial stone walls, makes it naturally cool without the need for A/C, although that is available in key rooms. A technology fan, Luigi uses his mobile to translate his utterances from Italian to English for us, and ours back to Italian for him. As you can imagine this lead to some interesting, and occasionally, hilarious conversations. Luigi has committed to learning English in the next 6 months, so we would be delighted to return to check out the improvement. Last, but by no means least, Luigi is an accomplished chef – we were treated to pasta Norma on arrival ( a speciality of Catania ), and the night before we left we had a veritable feast – anti-pasta, then pasta with fruits de mer, followed by fried swordfish steaks with green salad, and to top it all off, poached prickly pears for dessert. My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in September 2015 and would be more than happy to return again.
There are things that you can’t buy!
As the subject means when you accomodate at La Casa di Luigi’s B&b the most important aspect that you experience is his availability to have a good and nice stay there. It’s a pleasure for me live in a location where you can fell as your home or with your friends. My stay there was so. Obviously the owner is a good guide to know the area because his is there since he was 10 years old. He is a good cook too. It will be nice for me if in the future i could visit this B&b again.
